Since a boy, Felipe had an irrational lust for hunting the gigantic queens. He’s seen the hive.

NEW YORK –
Directors of the nation's most prestigious marathons may soon be appalled to learn that their most popular entry may weigh in at almost a ton. The newly discovered, Severin Queen Centipede (Scolopendra Quadmoda), is vowing to enter the New York City Marathon this fall and perhaps the Boston Marathon next year. “According to the rules,” says Marathon Official “there is nothing against a ‘Scolopendra Quadmoda’ centipede racing. Hell, this is America!” 

But can the The ‘Scolopendra Quadmoda’ race? 

The team seems to think so. Authorities say that at one of those two races it might even beat the 2:20:00 time necessary to qualify for the next U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials. 
But not everyone is so easily swayed. Roy Merchant, New York resident and veteran Marathon runner has his doubts: “You know, I’ve been racing the ‘Thon for a good 13 years and I’ll tell you; endurance is key. I seen guys eating 2 cheeseburgers a day fall flat out, I mean grown men! How can a queen centipede last? It just seems silly.” 
Meanwhile, Local Feminist groups have already started petitions to allow the Queen Centipede to participate in the Marathons. Avid feminist, Angela Linshield , thinks that gender is all that’s keeping the ‘severin queen’ back: “I think that if ANY female feels they have a right to race, they should be given the chance. I don’t care what species it is! Honestly! The board is comprised of men, and they are afraid that if a female wins it will immasculate the forum. Which is ridiculous.” 
A racing future for The Severin Queen is now uncertain, but recent polls state 76% of voters would watch the race if the queen is allowed to race. Sources predict the queen’s popularity would generate an extra $54 million dollars for New York’s Marathon. The prediction is not counting involvement of sponsors: Sprint, Gatorade and Nike; who have already signed on to support The Severin Queen. 
With an ambition heart and spirit, it looks like the ‘Scolopendra Quadmoda’ Queen centipede may bring racing and science fans together at last.”
